What Are the Circuits?

In an effort to preserve the site and manage growing visitor numbers, Peru's Ministry of Culture introduced a circuit system at Machu Picchu. Instead of roaming freely around the ruins, visitors now follow a designated route based on the circuit printed on their ticket.

There are currently five circuits available, though the most popular ones for typical visitors are Circuits 1 through 4.

Circuit 1 – The Classic Panorama

This is the circuit most people think of when they imagine Machu Picchu. It takes you to the upper terraces where you get the iconic postcard view.

Highlights

  • The famous classic photo viewpoint
  • Upper agricultural terraces
  • Panoramic views of the entire site

Who Should Choose This?

First-time visitors who want the iconic photo and a broad overview.

Circuit 2 – The Full Experience

Circuit 2 is the most complete route, covering both the upper terraces and the lower urban area.

Highlights

  • Classic panoramic viewpoint
  • Temple of the Sun
  • Sacred Plaza and Intihuatana stone area
  • Temple of the Condor
